CAREER COACHING WORKSHOP 2017

MASCA SA and KUA Adelaide has organised a similar event last year, Career Coaching Workshop 2017 attracting more than 50 participants. A survey has been done collaboratively by MASCA SA and KUA Adelaide on students’ preference when it comes to their career pathway as an initiative. The consensus is that a niche for students wishing to improve their interpersonal and resume writing exists; which we believe is highly crucial in the ever-competing working industry. Therefore, with the survey, it was evident that Malaysian students are concerned of their future, regardless if they are seeking employment back home in Malaysia or in Australia.

Based on these responses, we have decided to organise a one day event to act as a platform for students to not only grow as individuals, but to expose them the critical elements in ensuring they are not disadvantaged when looking for a career, and are able to plan long term career goals for their future. The event was divided into two sessions;

  • Session A is a resume workshop and will be conducted for an expected amount of 20 student.

    • The session aims to allow students to produce a well written, eye-catching resume that can make a world of a difference in terms of employment. For this section, what is important for the students to understand is to produce the best resume for their own benefits to be use in the future when they are seeking employment. This can be as simple as the details required and the formatting of the resume to more complex matters such as articulating their achievements on paper. Other than that, to also understand the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) that is used by most of the top leading companies to screen their preferred resume, these are the things that we would have like to help the students to prepare.

  • Session B consisted of the mock assessment and interview sessions which will be conducted in small groups with panel members from reputable organisations. These sessions were held in tandem.

    • The aim of this section is to be a platform for students to practice improving every aspect of their own self from soft skills to basic body postures and gestures. Through this, students’ confidence will not only be boosted, but they will be informed on how to carry themselves in assessment centres and interviews. This section comprises of 4 “pods”, where the “pods” will address the areas of body language and Etiquette, Personal Interview, Group Interview, and Assessment Centre, providing students a holistic experience of a real-life, career interview scenario. Our Malaysian students will then be able to excel in the future with confidence as they would have a grasp of understanding on the process.
